FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team fell short in the series opener against Oral Roberts, 2-1, in 10 innings on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
Davis Hamilton connected on a single in the opening frame to send Jake Schaffner home to put the Bison (15-27, 11-11 Summit) in front, 1-0. Oral Roberts (26-17, 13-8 Summit) answered in the second after Makani Tanaka connected on a double and later scored on a passed ball to lock the contest, 1-1. Both teams then battled through eight scoreless frames until Cooper Combs lifted an RBI sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to help secure the 2-1 win.
As a team, the Bison totaled eight hits with Schaffner going 3-of-5 at the plate with one run.
Nolan Johnson worked a career-long 8.0 innings with no walks and seven strikeouts. It marked his third straight start with at least seven strikeouts this season. Danny Lachenmayer (1-3) added two strikeouts with one walk over the final two frames.
NDSU will continue its series with Oral Roberts tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
