NDSU Softball Wraps Up Regular Season At St. Thomas

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State softball wraps up the 2025 regular season schedule this weekend in Minnesota, traveling to St. Paul for a three-game Summit League series on Friday and Saturday at St. Thomas. The Bison will take on the Tommies in a doubleheader on Friday beginning at noon, with the final game of the series on Saturday at 11 a.m. at South Field.
 
Game Coverage
All three games of the series between the Bison and Tommies will be streamed live on The Summit League Network. A Summit League Network subscription is needed to view the games. Series History
North Dakota State and St. Thomas have met 11 times in series history heading into the weekend. NDSU leads the series 9-2, including an 8-1 record since the Tommies joined the Summit League in 2022. The Bison have won six straight in the series, including a sweep last season in Fargo and two years ago in St. Paul.
 
Williams, Reed Toss Shutouts
Savy Williams picked up her second shutout in three weeks and Piper Reed tossed her first career shutout this past weekend against South Dakota, leading the Bison to a series win over the Coyotes. Williams took the ball in game one and scattered five hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Reed then followed it up with just four hits and two walks while striking out three. Williams also went 4.1 innings in game three of the series before allowing a run, as she reached a new career high scoreless inning streak at 15.2.
 
Dean’s Offense Leads NDSU to Series Win
Bella Dean accounted for seven of NDSU’s eight runs in the series win over South Dakota, including driving in both game-winning runs. Dean had an RBI single to start the scoring in game one of the series and then later scored the second of three runs in the game. In game two, Dean roped her first triple of the season, bringing in the first two runs of the game, before scoring the third and final run later in the inning. In game three, Dean drove in both Bison runs with a double off the fence. Dean leads the Bison accounting for 43 total runs, 25.9 percent of the Bison offense this season. She also has a team high five game-winning RBIs this season.
 
Turning Two
North Dakota State leads the Summit League and ranks 11th nationally this season with .54 double plays turned per game by the defense, including 13 in the Summit League. NDSU’s 25 total double plays turned also ranks 18th nationally. The Bison turned just 16 double plays last season. 25 double plays turned by the Bison defense is second most in NDSU history. The school record is 28 in 2009.
 
Hanta, Bison Lead League In Stolen Bases
Freshman Amai Hanta has entered league play with a splash, swiping seven bases in the series at Kansas City and four against North Dakota. She has 19 stolen bases on the year, which also ranks 83rd nationally. Her stolen base percentage of .950 ranks sixth nationally. NDSU has recorded 42 stolen bases (in 50 attempts) this season, which also leads the league lead. The Bison closed out last season with 44 stolen bases, .815 per game. NDSU is averaging .913 stolen bases per game this season.
 
Tough Outs
The Bison lead the Summit League in fewest strikeouts at the plate this season. NDSU has just 150 strikeouts in 1285 total plate appearances, striking out just 11.67 percent of the time and 3.26 times per game. The league average is 14.39 percent and South Dakota State is the second closest at 178 strikeouts, 11.69 percent and 3.63 times per game. Zoe King leads the Bison and the Summit League in Toughest to Strikeout Ratio, at one per 26 trips to the plate, which also ranks 48th nationally. Bella Dean is second in the Summit League and 128th nationally at one per 18.25 trips to the plate.
