OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision at Creighton on Tuesday night at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
Creighton (24-12, 6-3 Big East) built up a 5-0 advantage over the first five innings following an RBI single from Ben North in the fifth inning. Sam Canton sparked the Bison (13-23, 10-7 Summit) with an RBI single up the middle in the sixth frame to cut the edge to 5-1. NDSU continued to apply pressure loading up the bases and adding another run after Canton was hit by a pitch to score Bennett Freiter in the seventh inning. However, the Bluejays went on to hold off the Bison over the final two frames to secure the 5-2 win.
The Bison totaled seven hits as a team with Jake Schaffner going 3-of-5 at the plate with one run. Freiter also logged his first career multiple hit game with two hits and one run.
The NDSU pitching staff combined to use eight different pitchers with Leland Wilson (0-2) making the start with two strikeouts over 1.0 innings. Danny Lachenmayer finished out the final frame with three straight strikeouts in the eighth inning.
NDSU will be back in action at South Dakota State on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
