FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team scored all four runs over the final four innings before falling short against Northern Colorado, 6-4, in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
Northern Colorado (13-24, 6-12 Summit) opened up a 6-0 lead in the fifth with an RBI ground out off the bat of Carter Monda. Alex Urlaub answered for the Bison (13-22, 10-7 Summit) in the sixth inning with a two RBI single into right field to cut the deficit to 6-2. Blake Timmons continued the momentum into the eighth after he delivered an RBI single up the middle to make the score 6-3.
The Bison continued to apply pressure in the ninth inning with a pair of walks from Davis Hamilton and Colten Becker. Noah Gordon then loaded the bases up with a single before Dante Smith scored Hamilton with a bases-loaded hit by pitch. However, the Bison went on to leave the bases loaded and dropped the contest, 6-4.
NDSU posted six hits as a team with Smith contributing two hits, two runs and one RBI.
Garrett Shupe (0-3) made the start on the mound and threw one strikeout over 3.1 innings. Hayden Sylte also logged a season-high 3.2 innings of relief with three strikeouts and no walks.
NDSU will be back in action at Creighton on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
