BROOKINGS, S.D. – North Dakota State softball fell to South Dakota State 10-0 on Friday in the Summit League series opener at JT Moriarty Field.
South Dakota State used a couple of triples, a single and a Bison error to jump out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Jackrabbits would add another RBI on a third triple in the second inning to go up by five.
The Bison would threaten in the fifth inning, loading the bases on a hit and a pair of walks, but NDSU was unable to get a run across to close the gap. South Dakota State responded with a two-run home run, followed by a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth, the second trigger the run-rule victory for the hosts.
Savannah Henzler recorded the only Bison hit in the game. Star Cortez, Chloe Woldruff, and Ella Claus recorded walks for NDSU. Piper Reed picked up the loss, allowing seven runs in four innings. She allowed eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
The Bison will return to action on Saturday with the final two games of the series against South Dakota State. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. from JT Moriarty Field.
