In a week where we saw one-time Viking starter and potential 2025 QB2 Case Keenum join the Chicago Bears, Minnesota was dealt another blow on Friday morning.
Many thought well-traveled veteran Joe Flacco would be the top-of-the-list option for the Minnesota Vikings post-draft, but that dream ended on Friday.
According to ESPN.com, Flacco has agreed to a one-year deal to rejoin the Cleveland Browns:
The Cleveland Browns and veteran quarterback Joe Flacco have reached agreement on a one-year, $4 million contract, his agent, Joe Linta, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Friday.
The deal returns Flacco to Cleveland, where he won the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award in 2023.
The contract can be worth up to $13 million with incentives. The Browns also announced an agreement with Flacco on Friday without disclosing terms.
Flacco also spoke with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings but opted to spend his 18th NFL season with the Browns. Co-owner Jimmy Haslam had told a group of local reporters at the NFL’s annual meeting that Flacco remained an option for the team.
With Flacco off of the board, there are just a few realistic names available. Of course, Aaron Rodgers is still out there, but so are Drew Lock, Carson Wentz, and Teddy Bridgewater.
It isn’t a must have, but a veteran backup should be a priority for Minnesota post-draft in the coming weeks.
