SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Freshman outfielder Dante Smith has been named the Kwik Star Summit League Peak Male Newcomer of the Month, the league office announced on Thursday afternoon.
Smith registered a .361 batting average with a .508 slugging percentage and .437 on-base percentage across 16 games in the month of March. The Ajax, Ontario native led the team with 14 RBI and five stolen bases. He connected on 22 hits with four doubles, one triple and one home run.
Smith logged three multiple RBI games and eight multiple hit games, including a season-best four hits on four at-bats at Northern Colorado on March 23. He narrowly missed hitting for the cycle against the Bears after recording a double in the first, triple in the fifth and singles in the third and sixth innings.
Smith earned the award for the first time in his career after also being named the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week back on March 24.
NDSU will be back in action to begin a three-game series at Omaha on Friday. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
