The No. 4 seed, VomBaur took down top-ranked and previously undefeated Beau Bartlett of Penn State, 5-3 to become the first Gopher to reach the 141-pound finals since Mike Thorn in 2011. VomBaur struck first with an opening-period takedown, getting in on Bartlett’s left leg. That would be the only offense as Bartlett lodged a pair of escapes in the final periods and got a point for stalling, while VomBaur escaped to start the second period. Bartlett entered the match 19-0 after placing second at nationals last year.

Vombaur the human hurricane is always fun to watch wrestle. πͺπ«In one year he went from ranked 26th to beating the top ranked undefeated leader of his tough weight class. He goes all out, balls to the walls and gaining speed for the entire match. π¦ He doesn't hold hands and dance like so many wrestlers these days. ππΊHe also never gives away free points from escapes.
I would not be surprised to see three Gophers at the top of the podium this year at the NCAA's.π₯π I think that Steveson, Kremer and others have breathed new life into the gophers to be much more confident and aggressive this year. πββπ€Όββ Most all the Gopher wrestlers have raised their game …. maybe they will get a trophy this year π Keep up the good work ! β€π
