NDSU Baseball Drops 4-3 Decision at Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. – The North Dakota State baseball team came up short at Northern Colorado, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Jackson Field.

Both teams worked through three scoreless innings before Jake Schaffner broke through for the Bison (5-16, 3-2 Summit) with an RBI single to make the score 1-0. Dante Smith then scored two more runs with a two-run single into deep center field to push the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning.

The Bears (8-14, 3-2 Summit) answered in the bottom half of the fourth cutting the deficit to 3-2 after an RBI double from Jake Bullard and Jake King scoring on a fielding error. Northern Colorado then tied the game, 3-3, in the fifth after Kai Wagner delivered an RBI single into right field. Following two scoreless frames, the Bears scored the winning run in the eighth with an RBI single off the bat of Aiden Gebhard to seal the 4-3 win.

The Bison notched seven hits as a team with Smith, Schaffner and Tate Martin each posting two hits apiece.

Logan Knight made the start on the mound going 6.0 innings with six strikeouts and two walks. Reese Ligtenberg (1-1) picked up the loss with two strikeouts over the final 2.0 innings.

NDSU will wrap its series at Northern Colorado tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. CT
