NDSU Softball Heads to Mississippi and Louisiana to Start Spring Break Trip

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State softball heads south to Mississippi and Louisiana for an 11-day trip over spring break that will include trips to the Golden Eagle Classic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and a midweek game in Hammond, Louisiana at Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday to begin the trip.
 
The Bison will open up the Golden Eagle Classic against host Southern Miss and Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday March, 7. NDSU will play both schools again on Saturday before a final game against Eastern Shore on Sunday. NDSU will then take on the Lady Lions of Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday evening.
 
Game Coverage
NDSU’s first game against Southern Miss at the Golden Eagle Classic will be streamed live on ESPN+, along with the game at Southeastern Louisiana. All six games will also have live statistics. Links to the streams and stats will be available on the softball schedule page on gobison.com.
 
A Return Mississippi
The Bison make their second trip in three seasons to the state of Mississippi, beginning an 11-day trip in the deep south, along with a stop in Louisiana. NDSU went to Starkville and Oxford in 2023, going 3-1 in a makeshift week due to schedule changes, winning games against Mississippi State, Purdue and Samford. The front end of the trip will see the Bison head to Hattiesburg for the first time, before returning to Oxford on the second weekend.
 
Series History – Maryland Eastern Shore
NDSU will play Maryland Eastern Shore for the first time in program history when the two teams meet for the first time at the Golden Eagle Classic. The two teams are scheduled to play three times over three days.
 
Series History – Southern Miss
The Bison and Golden Eagles will meet for the third and fourth time in series history, entering the week tied 1-1. NDSU won 1-0 on Feb. 14, 2014 at the Florida State Renegade Classic. Southern Miss won 7-6 the next day.
 
Series History – Southeastern Louisiana

The Bison are set to face Southeastern Louisiana for the fourth time in program history when the two teams meet on Tuesday. NDSU holds a 2-1 lead in the series, beginning with a 5-1 win over the Lady Lions at the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Classic on Feb. 13, 2009. The Bison then won 9-0 in five innings at the Florida Bubly Invitational on Feb. 14, 2020. Last season the Lady Lions won 5-1 at the Texas A&M Invitational on Feb. 23.
 
Henderson Making Turn at Plate
Rylee Henderson has made a significant change at the plate in the last two weeks, hitting .552 over the last nine games, including 16-for-29 at the plate with five doubles, 10 RBI and three runs scored. Henderson, who was hitting .118 after two weeks, also has a pair of walks and a hit by pitch, reaching a .594 on base percentage. Henderson is also perfect in the field with 11 put outs and 20 assists, the second most chances of any Bison during the span.
 
Warren Getting On and Scoring With Opportunities
Over the last two weeks, Taylinn Warren has hit .471 at the plate, going 8-for-17, along with a walk for a .500 on base percentage. She has recorded three RBI at the plate as well. Once on base, Warren has made the most of her opportunities, going 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts and coming around to score six runs, scoring two-thirds of the times she has reached.
 
Freshmen Playing Early
Through four weeks, NDSU’s four freshman have combined for 42 starts, with everyone starting at least eight games.
