NDSU Baseball Falls at No. 20 Alabama, 12-4

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The North Dakota State baseball team fell short at No. 20 Alabama, 12-4, on Friday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in front of 4,180 fans.

The Bison (1-7) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening frame after Davis Hamilton connected on a two RBI single up the middle. Alex Urlaub extended the early lead to 3-0 after he lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to center field. The Crimson Tide (10-0) responded one inning later to steal the lead with five runs on five hits. Brennen Norton started frame with a two-run home run before Kade Snell launched a solo home run to left field. Richie Bonomolo Jr. capped the big inning for Alabama with another two-run home run to left field to make the score 5-3.

The contest then went scoreless for four innings until the Crimson Tide, who are one of 13 undefeated teams in Division I this season, pushed across five runs in the seventh to stretch their lead to 10-3 after Brady Neal was walked with bases loaded. Alabama went on to add two more runs in the eighth to seal the 12-4 win in the series opener.

Hamilton led the way for the Bison going 2-of-3 at the plate with a season-high three RBI. Kyle Law also tallied one hit on three appearances with two runs.

Nolan Johnson (0-3) made the start on the hill with four strikeouts and one walk. Landon Koenig also appeared for 2.1 innings in relief with two strikeouts and one walk.

NDSU will continue its three-game series at Alabama tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
