The Minnesota Vikings finished the 2024 season with a 14-3 record and that’s a big jump from their 7-10 record where they were below .500. They started out hot going 14-2 by week 16, which was their best start to a season since 2009. Their stout defense under Brian Flores and QB Sam Darnold’s emergence after rookie QB J.J. McCarthy’s meniscus injury, was the biggest reason for their turnaround. Despite losing Kirk Cousins to free agency, letting Danielle Hunter walk, and dealing with injuries such as Christian Darrisaw’s season-ending ACL tear, they still showed toughness and resilience to hold on to the fifth seed in NFC.
Offensively the Vikings were clicking on all cylinders and were averaging 25.4 points per game which was 12th in the NFL last season. They were led by Sam Darnold’s 4319 passing yards and of course Justin Jefferson who finished the season with 1533 receiving yards. Their defense wasn’t bad but they weren’t exactly good either as they were ranked 16th in total defense last season.

Their season hit a wall when they faced the L.A Rams in the wildcard round of the playoffs and lost brutally with the final score of 9-27. Now that the offseason has started, there are various talks surrounding the team. Particularly about who will the Vikings keep? Will they keep Sam Darnold and hinder rookie QB McCarthy’s growth or will they trade Darnold and put all their faith in a rookie QB who hasn’t played a single game yet? We will soon come to know.
