BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – North Dakota State wrestling picked up a dual split on Sunday in a triangular hosted at the Icardo Center at Cal State Bakersfield, falling 21-16 to No. 15 Little Rock before defeating host Cal State Bakersfield 28-10.
Tristan Daugherty, Michael Olson and #32 Aidan Brenot all swept their matches on the day, while the Bison scored six bonus-point victories and picked up wins in 11 of the 20 matches.
Brenot scored the biggest win of the day, as he upset #16 Brock DelSignore in the Little Rock dual, recording a second period pin at 4:15. After giving up an escape in the second and trailing 4-1, Brenot secured a takedown and converted into four swipes before ultimately getting the slap of the mat for the win. In his second match of the day, Brenot picked up a 5-1 win over Cal State Bakersfield’s Gerrit Nijenhuis.
Daugherty started off the day with a major decision against Little Rock, recording five takedowns in an 18-5 win over Jayden Carson. Daugherty then started the Bakersfield dual with a 2-1 victory over Richard Castro-Sandoval.
Olson picked up an overtime win in the Little Rock dual, securing a takedown to win 4-1 over Brennan Van Hoecke. In the Cal State Bakersfield dual, Olson recorded three takedowns to defeat Hayden Zinkin 11-6.
Drew Blackburn-Forst claimed the final win for NDSU in the Little Rock dual, defeating Branson Britten 4-2. Blackburn-Forst nearly had an upset of #20 Jake Andrews in the Cal State Bakersfield dual, leading 4-2 until a takedown in the final five seconds to lose 5-4.
Devin Wasley, Max Petersen and #23 Kyle Burwick all rebounded after losses in their first match of the day with tech fall wins over Cal State Bakersfield. Burwick won 18-0 over Santino Sanchez. Petersen picked up a 19-2 win over Jose Farias. Wasley defeated Coen Quintana 16-0.
Tayshaun Glover also picked up a bonus-point win in the Cal State Bakersfield dual, winning over Chris Neal, 14-3.
The Bison will wrap up the dual schedule for 2024-25 next Sunday, February 23, welcoming in South Dakota State for Senior Day inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex. The Bison and Jackrabbits are set to get underway at 2 p.m., with the dual set to be televised live on WDAY Xtra and broadcast on Bison 1660.
