PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – North Dakota State softball dropped both games on day two of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge at Nancy Almaraz Field. The Bison fell in game one to Boise State, 8-0, before dropping game two, 10-0, to Indiana.
NDSU fell behind quickly to Boise State, as the Broncos scored two in the first. The Broncos capitalized on an error and a passed ball from the Bison to score an unearned run in the third and fourth to extend the lead, before adding two runs in the fifth and sixth to secure the run-rule victory.
NDSU was unable to get the offense going in the game, finishing with just two hits, both from Jasmyn Yessian. Savannah Henzler recorded a walk in the fifth as the only other Bison to reach base in the game.
Savy Williams picked up the loss, allowing six runs, four earned, in five innings of work. She had two strikeouts and allowed nine hits. Madison Wihlm allowed the other two Boise State runs in two-thirds of an inning, recording one strikeout with one hit and three walks.
In game two, the Hoosiers capitalized on five Bison errors and scored runs in every inning, beginning with two in the top of the first and three in the second. Indiana would add a run in the third and fourth before using two errors in the fifth to score three final runs.
Star Cortez and Bella Dean finished with the only hits for the Bison. Jessica Delatorre also reached on a hit by pitch. Cortez also picked up two outfield assists in the game from center field.
In the circle, Addie Bowers picked up the loss, allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits with one strikeout in two innings. Kaitlyn Dunford tossed the final three innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts.
The Bison will be back in action on Friday, taking on Florida International. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Nancy Almaraz Field.
