FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women’s basketball team held off North Dakota to pick up a 70-66 win on Saturday afternoon inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex in front of 2,210 fans.
Kiera Pemberton pulled the Fighting Hawks (8-12, 3-4 Summit) back within two, 68-66, with 35 seconds to play. Following a Bison (14-6, 6-1 Summit) turnover, Marisa Frost answered for NDSU creating a steal on the inbound and then hitting two free throws to seal the 70-66 win over North Dakota. It marked the 11th win for the Bison over Fighting Hawks in the last 12 meetings.
Avery Koenen led the way for NDSU with a game-high 21 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter. The Montevideo, Minn., native added three assists, two blocks and two rebounds to her stat line. Abbie Draper contributed 12 points with a game-high nine rebounds, while Frost tallied 11 points with two rebounds off the bench.
As a team, NDSU shot 42.4 percent (25-59) from the field and 82.6 percent (19-23) from the free throw line with eight different players in the scoring column. The Bison scored 44 points in the paint and 20 points off of turnovers.
NDSU will be back in action at South Dakota State on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
