Fourth Quarter Surge Lifts NDSU Women’s Basketball Past Omaha, 81-67

OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State women’s basketball team outscored Omaha, 26-11, in the fourth quarter to help push the Bison to an 81-67 win on Thursday night at Baxter Arena.

With the win, the Bison (12-5, 4-0 Summit) extend their season-best win streak to six games and have now started Summit League play 4-0 for the second straight season. With the loss, Omaha falls to 9-8 (1-3 Summit) on the season.

After trailing 56-55 after three quarters, the Bison assembled a momentum-shifting 8-0 run to begin the fourth frame featuring four points from Marisa Frost and Avery Koenen to steal the lead, 63-58, with 7:23 to play. NDSU then put the game out of reach with another 12-0 run spanning just over four minutes to grow its largest lead of the contest, 77-63, with a layup from Frost with 1:15 remaining. NDSU went on to pick up the 81-67 victory.

Four players reached double figures in scoring with Frost registering her second 20-point performance of the season with a game-high 23 points. The Lino Lakes, Minn., native buried a season-best 11 field goals on 16 attempts and added two assists with one rebound to her stat line.

Abbie Draper narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Abby Schulte netted a season-high 14 points with six rebounds, while Koenen tallied double figures in scoring for fifth straight game with 12 points and five rebounds.

As a team, the Bison shot 55.0 percent (33-60) from the field and 68.4 percent (13-19) from the free throw line. NDSU posted a season-high 60 points in the paint and the bench added in 27 points. The Bison also grabbed 28 rebounds in comparison to the Mavericks’ 22.

NDSU will be back in action at Kansas City on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
