FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women’s basketball team closed out non-conference play with a 64-55 win over Dakota Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon at Scheels Center.
Four Bison (8-5) hit double figures in scoring with Abby Krzewinski netting a team-high 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three. Avery Koenen added 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the free throw line to go along with eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal. Abbie Draper and Marisa Frost registered 10 points each to round out the top performers.
As a team, NDSU shot 40.4 percent (21-52) from the field and 94.1 percent (16-17) from the free throw line with eight players in the scoring column. The Bison also grabbed a season-best 42 rebounds with Claire Stern and Koenen each grabbing eight of their own.
After NDSU grabbed a 35-34 edge at the intermission, the Bison used nine straight points to open the second half to grow their lead to 44-34 following a triple from Krzewinski at the 6:39 mark. NDSU, who outscored Dakota Wesleyan, 21-9, in the quarter, then built its largest lead of the game, 56-43, with a layup from Molly Lenz at the 1:03 mark of the third quarter. The Bison went on to hold off the Tigers over the final frame to secure the 64-55 victory.
NDSU will be back in action at St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon to open Summit League play. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
