Thomas was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round (102nd overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Michigan, where he overlapped with Vikings defensive back Joshua Metellus for three seasons (2017-19) with the Wolverines.
Thomas played three seasons in San Francisco, appearing in 42 games with 11 starts, recording 79 tackles, two interceptions, 12 passes defensed and one forced fumble.
Minnesota had an opening on its practice squad after outside linebacker Andre Carter II signed with the Raiders active roster last week.
