The Minnesota Vikings have a dilemma on their hands and it’s actually a great one: Sam Darnold, JJ McCarthy or BOTH?
There needs to be a real conversation about the Vikings trading JJ McCarthy and signing Darnold to a 3+ Year contract, especially if they have playoff success this season.
The option of having both on your roster really is up to Darnold and if he’s okay with taking a shorter deal / less guarantee of being the future of the franchise. McCarthy realistically could sit for another season, but to expect him to sit for 3+ seasons is a recipe for disaster.
For the Raiders, they’re heading into a crucial offseason looking for a new quarterback, and while the Shedeur Sanders train seems the most obvious, JJ McCarthy gives them a younger player who also has had serious success at the college level.
With Tom Brady having more of a role in the Raiders front office, his ties to Michigan COULD cause him to be a bigger fan of McCarthy.
Outside of the Tennessee Titans, there really isn’t a perfect fit for McCarthy, and if the Raiders have to give up a 2nd round pick along with another day-2 pick, that’d be a win for the Raiders.
