WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Senior Rylin Petry led the North Dakota State men’s golf team to second place after the first two rounds of play at the Metropolis Intercollegiate in White Plains, New York on Monday.
Petry (69-70—139) is at the top of the 84-golfer field following the first 36 holes of play. Petry fired four birdies in the first round to sit at -1. He then held consistent with four more birdies in round two to finish at an even par. He is sitting at -1 overall, in a tie for first with Siena’s KC Nickel going into the final round of play.
Max Wilson (71-73—144) and Gabe Benson (69-75—144) both sit inside the top 10 in a tie for ninth after the first day. Wilson recorded two birdies and 13 pars to finish at +1 after the first round. He then added three more birdies and 11 pars in the second round to end the day at +4. Benson fired an eagle on hole one and birdies on the fifth, 11th, and 15th holes to end the first round of play with a career-low of 69 and -1. Benson notched four additional birdies in the second round and finished at +5 to end the day at +4 overall.
Freshman Carter White (73-76—149) made his debut as a Bison in the first round of play with three birdies and finished the first round at +3. White added two more birdies in the second round and sits in a tie for 28th at +9 overall.
Jake Skarperud (79-74—153) started the day with two birdies and eight pars in the first round to sit at +9. Skarperud turned it around during the next 18-holes, notching three birdies and eight more parsto improve his round by 5 strokes, finishing the second round at +4 and sitting in a tie for 56th at +13 overall.
Freshman Andrew Ballou (70-72—142), who is playing as an individual, also made his debut as a Bison. In the first round, Ballou recorded a birdie and 12 pars over his first 13 holes. He added another birdie and finished his first 18-holes at an even-par round of 70. Ballou continued his momentum into round two and carded 14 more pars and a birdie to end at +2 on the round, and +2 overall in a tie for fifth.
As a team, the Bison (282-292—574) sit in second out of 15 teams after the first two rounds. NDSU shot the lowest round of the tournament at +2 in the first round and shot +12 in the second round to finish the day at +14 overall. Siena (289-284—573) lead the Bison by one stroke at +13, with Richmond (297-282—579) in third at +19.
The Bison will wrap up the Metropolis Intercollegiate tomorrow at the Metropolis Country Club. The final round will tee off at 8:45 a.m. ET / 7:45 a.m. CT.
