Series History
The Bison will face the Golden Eagles for just the second time in series history. Marquette picked up the win in the only other meeting, scoring a goal in double overtime to hand NDSU a heartbreaking 1-0 loss on September 17, 2021 at Valley Fields.
Bison Win Opener
The Bison extended their unbeaten streak in season openers to four on Thursday with a 3-1 win at Green Bay. Kendall Stadden broke a scoreless tie early in the second half with a goal from the edge of the penalty area. Less than three minutes later, Isabel Garcia doubled the lead from the top of the box. Hannah Arnold capped the NDSU scoring in the 80th minute. Green Bay scored late in the 88th minute to prevent the shutout.
Debut and First Career Goals
NDSU had two Bison score goals on their official Bison debuts on Thursday, with Kendall Stadden and Isabel Garcia finding the score sheet.
Stadden, a junior transfer from Minnesota, scored her first career goal and points in the 55th minute. Garcia, a sophomore transfer from Indiana State, then scored in the 58th minute for her first career goal and points. Stadden also picked up her first career assist on Garcia’s goal.
The last time NDSU had a player score a goal on debut came when freshman Tyreese Zacher scored in the 67th minute to help NDSU tie Boise State 1-1 in the season opener on August 17, 2023.
Russmann Records First Two-Assist Game
Morgan Russmann made an immediate impact on her sophomore season, setting up a pair of goals and nearly scoring another, only for it to be called back by offsides. Russmann assisted Isabel Garcia’s goal and then set up the final goal for Hannah Arnold, both with cutback crosses.
For Russmann, it was the first two-assist game of her career. Last season she recorded three assists, all coming in separate games.
Arnold Finds Scoring Form Early
Hannah Arnold picked up her first three career goals in the second half of 2024, providing the game-winning goals in all three games against St. Ambrose, Kansas City and South Dakota. The junior jumped on the score sheet in the 80th minute of the win against Green Bay in the opener, giving Arnold four goals in her last 11 games overall.
Thursday’s win over Green Bay was also the first three-point game of Arnold’s career, as she also recorded her seventh career assist, setting up the game’s opening goal from Kendall Stadden.
Arnold is currently second on the Bison in active game-winning goals with three, only behind four from Morgan Russmann.
Last Time vs Marquette
The Bison fell in a heart breaker, losing 1-0 in double overtime to Marquette at Valley Fields. Elsi Twombly sent in a cross for Marquette from near the end line that passed the outstretched gloves of Sofia Howe and Kate Gibson redirected the ball into the net for a winner in the 106th minute.
Howe made a career high 12 saves in the contest for the Bison. NDSU’s best chance came late in the second half when Brooklyn Dew’s shot from six yards out sailed just over the bar. Olivia Lovick also forced a pair of diving stops from Mikki Easter, who finished with three saves for the Golden Eagles.
Looking Ahead
The Bison will remain on the road in week two of the regular season, heading west and beginning the week in Idaho with a clash against Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho. The Bison will take on the Bengals at Davis Field with kickoff set for 8 p.m. CT/7 p.m. MT.
