North Dakota State University women’s track & field athlete Riika Tirkkonen placed fifth in the 400m dash at the Finnish Championships this weekend.
Tirkkonen clocked 56.50 in the 400m dash final to take fifth place.
The rising sophomore will also compete at the upcoming U23 Finnish Championships in Helsinki on Aug. 16-17, where she will run the 100m and 200m.
Tirkkonen concluded her freshman season at No. 8 on the NDSU all-time list in the 100m dash (11.70), as well as ranking ninth in the indoor 60m dash (7.64) and 11th in the indoor 200m dash (24.52). She also ran on Bison 4x100m and 4x400m relays that stand among the school’s all-time Top 10.
