Former North Dakota State NCAA champion thrower Payton Otterdahl will compete in the shot put at the USATF Outdoor Championships this Sunday, Aug. 3, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Otterdahl enters the meet at No. 5 in the world rankings, and he stands at No. 3 among American men this year in the shot put.
The men’s shot put is scheduled for 3:40 p.m. CT / 1:40 p.m. PT on Sunday, with the broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
Otterdahl will be contending for the national title and a spot on Team USA at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in September. The top three finishers in the shot put at the USATF Championships will advance to the World Championships.
Otterdahl competed for NDSU from 2015-19, setting the collegiate indoor shot put record and winning NCAA indoor titles in the shot put and weight throw in 2019. A two-time Olympian, Otterdahl placed fourth in the shot put at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
