Perich Talks New Offensive Role, Dream of Playing for Vikings at Gopher Media Day

Perich will next head to Las Vegas next week to take part in Big Ten Media Day. He’s one of five Gophers set to speak.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- In less than two weeks, the Minnesota Golden Gopher football program will open up fall camp in preparation for the upcoming season.

On Wednesday, a number of players were on hand for the team’s annual media day.

That of course included Esko native and safety Koi Perich.

Perich had a spectacular first season in the maroon and gold, which resulted in a laundry list of honors.

Something different this year is you can expect the ball to be in number 3’s hands a lot more as he’s set to play both sides for the Gophers.

“I’m just here to do whatever I can to help my team. If that’s on offense, I’m willing to do it. If it’s on defense, I’m willing to do it. Special teams. Anything to do, I’ll do it. I always wanted to do it coming out of high school. In recruitment, I wanted to do it too. I talked with Coach Fleck about it in recruitment and it just came to be this year,” said Perich.

Maybe watching a former Minnesota Viking, who wore number 28 also had something to do with Perich pursuing to play offense.

“I didn’t watch college football. My dream was to play for the Vikings. I would’ve just skipped through college if I could and just gone straight to the Vikings. But, have to do your three years. I really liked Adrian Peterson. He was my guy. I just liked watching what he did. Athletic machine, breaks a lot of good runs,” added Perich.
