FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State soccer picked up its third-straight shutout victory Thursday night with a 6-0 win over Clarke University at Dacotah Field.
Morgan Russmann scored her fourth career brace with two goals in the first half, moving into the Top 10 in NDSU’s (4-3-0) Division I era, tying Brooklyn Dyce (2009-12) with 14 career goals at No. 10. Russmann also picked up her sixth career game-winning goal, moving into a tie for fifth in NDSU’s Division I history.
Coming out of halftime, Hannah Arnold and Kendall Stadden picked up two quick goals in the 48th and 49th minutes. Arnold’s goal came on a long ball in from the wing to the back post, as she scored her second of the season.
Just 67 seconds later, Arnold played a cross into the center of the penalty area and Stadden headed it in for her second of the season to give NDSU a 4-0 lead.
Isabel Garcia would jump onto the scoresheet with the final two goals, scoring her first career brace. On the first goal, which came in the 65th minute, Devon Kavanagh’s cross was headed off the back post by Geni LaMarche and Garcia knocked in the rebound from close range.
In the 77th minute, Garcia won a penalty with a foul in the box. After her initial penalty attempt was saved, Garcia knocked in the rebound for her third goal of the campaign.
Russmann, who had a secondary assist on Stadden’s goal, finished with five points in the game. It’s her first two goal and one assist game since the 4-2 win over South Dakota on October 20th last season.
Stadden and Arnold finished with a goal and an assist, matching their career highs in points with three, both equaling their performances in the season opener at Green Bay.
Gabrielle Garrett picked the first two-assist game of her career, setting up Russmann’s opening goal and Arnold’s goal. Defenders Tyreese Zacher and Ellie Sanchez each had an assist as well. Zacher has a goal and two assists in the last four games. Sanchez picked up her second career assist and first since Saint Ambrose on September 20th last season.
Hannah Stipp picked up her third-straight cleansheet and fourth of her career. The last time the Bison had three-straight cleansheet victories came in 2011 against Western Illinois, Fort Wayne and Oakland.
North Dakota State wraps up the four-game home stand on Sunday, September 7, as the Bison welcome in UC Santa Barbara. Kickoff between the Bison and Gauchos is set for 12 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
