OGDEN, Utah – North Dakota State soccer fell to Weber State 3-1 Sunday afternoon in non-conference play at Wildcat Soccer Field.
The Bison (1-3) controlled the tempo early, with several strong chances in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. However, Weber State (3-1) capitalized on a counter attack in the 24th minute to take the lead, as Grace Kirby-Hortin scored on the break for the Wildcats.
Just four minutes later, Weber State scored on another quick break. After a Wildcats goal kick, Lauren Butorac found Presley Ray, who beat Hannah Stipp to the low left corner to double Weber State’s lead.
NDSU would respond in the 31st minute, as the Bison cut the deficit in half, as Tyreese Zacher scored her second career goal and the first since she made her debut in the season opener in 2023.
Amaya Garrett found Zacher in space well outside of the penalty area. The junior defender stepped forward and fired a shot from 25 yards out that glanced off of the bottom side of the crossbar and in.
NDSU was held to just two shots in the second half, with Kendall Stadden having a shot blocked early and then Mikayla Carkhuff’s long-range effort going just wide in the 77th minute.
Weber State sealed the victory in the 87th minute, capitalizing off of a set piece. Brynlee Meyerhoffer connected on a corner kick and put the shot into the top right corner to extend the lead to 3-1.
Both teams finished with seven shots on target in the game. Hanna Stipp made four saves for the Bison.
North Dakota State will return to action and open up the home schedule on Thursday, August 28, as the Bison welcome in Concordia-St. Paul for a non-conference contest at Dacotah Field. Kickoff against the Golden Bears is set for 6 p.m.
