NDSU Softball to Host Hit-A-Thon on September 13

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State softball program and head coach Darren Mueller have announced the first ever NDSU Softball Hit-A-Thon, which will take place at Tharaldson Park on Saturday, September 13, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event will coincide with tailgating for the NDSU football home opener against Southeast Missouri State.

The Hit-A-Thon is an initiative designed to raise funds for the NDSU Softball Green & Gold Fund.  The idea behind the fundraiser is quite simple, as the program looks to secure pledges per foot on how far your selected student-athlete, coach, or celebrity batter can hit the softball. Pledges can also be made as a direct, flat donation.

Each athlete will have 10 swings in a similar setting to an everyday batting practice, but fans will have the chance to watch, as well as meet and greet with the student-athletes. The distance the ball travels, once the ball has stopped rolling, for each swing will be recorded. The farthest distance for each hitter will be taken to use with pledges. Foul balls will NOT count for distances but will count as a swing.

For example, your chosen athlete hits a ball over the fence and it measures 250 feet for the longest hit.  You pledged $1.00 per foot. Your total donation to NDSU Softball would be $250. Fans can also choose to do a flat donation towards the program.

Along with NDSU Softball student-athletes, coach and celebrity batters will include Director of Athletics Matt Larsen, NDSU Basketball coaches Dave Richman and Jory Collins, select NDSU football coaches, and Head Coach Darren Mueller. Along with pledging for the NDSU softball players, fans can also make a pledge for the celebrity and coach batters.

Pledging towards a specific student athlete does not guarantee that the money will go towards that student athlete.  Student athletes cannot be compensated for their performance in the event.  Student athletes will be compensated for their participation in the event, for their promotion on social media and autograph sessions.  All pledges will go towards the NDSU Softball Green & Gold Fund.

All Donations to the Hit-A-Thon are Tax Deductible.
