NDSU Soccer Opens Season with 3-1 Win at Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The North Dakota State soccer team scored three second-half goals to defeat Green Bay 3-1 in the season opener Thursday night at Aldo Santaga Stadium.

After NDSU (1-0-0) dominated much of a scoreless first half, Kendall Stadden scored a debut goal for NDSU and gave the Bison an early second-half lead with a strike from the corner of the penalty area for her first collegiate goal in the 55th minute.

Less than three minutes later, Stadden flicked a pass from Morgan Russmann on to Isabel Garcia, who added another debut goal as she also scored her first collegiate goal to double the Bison lead from the top of the penalty box.

The Bison continued to dominate and Russmann then had a goal called back for offside, but in the 80th minute, Russmann played a cross to the far side of the box, where Hannah Arnold smashed a half volley into the net for the third and final goal of the game for NDSU.

Green Bay (0-1-0) would add a late goal in the 88th minute off of a corner kick to cap the scoring in the contest.

Stadden and Arnold each finished with a goal and an assist in the win. It is the first three-point game for both players. Russmann recorded two assists, the first multi-assist game of her career.

Hannah Stipp recorded two saves in goal for the Bison, facing eight shots from the Phoenix, including three on goal.

NDSU recorded 16 shots in the game, led by five from Stadden, three from Garcia and two from Russmann.

NDSU improved to 7-2-1 all-time against Green Bay and also improved to 18-11-2 all-time in season openers.

The Bison will remain in Wisconsin to wrap up the first week of the regular season, closing the road trip in Milwaukee on Sunday at Marquette. The Bison will take on the Golden Eagles at Valley Fields, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
