FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State wide receiver Bryce Lance was one of 30 players named to the Stats Perform Walter Payton Award preseason watch list Tuesday, July 29. The award is presented annually to the national offensive player of the year in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Lance, a fifth-year senior from Marshall, Minn., last year made 75 catches for 1,071 yards, the second most catches and third most yards in NDSU single-season history. He led the FCS with a school-record 17 receiving touchdowns, which tied the Missouri Valley Football Conference record.
Named to the All-MVFC first team at the end of the regular season, Lance starred in the FCS playoffs making six catches for 125 yards and three touchdowns in the semifinal win against South Dakota State and a career-high nine catches in the national championship victory against Montana State.
Lance was also named to the MVFC Scholar-Athlete first team in 2024.
Additional players may be added to the watch list before a national media panel selects the winner after the regular season from a group of finalists. The winner will be announced at the Stats Perform National Awards Banquet on Jan. 3 in Nashville, Tenn.
North Dakota State is scheduled to open the 2025 season at The Citadel on Saturday, Aug. 30.
