Wisconsin-based Civic Media says its WELY in Ely, MN (1450/103.9) says the station has signed a seven-year agreement with the Minnesota Vikings to broadcast the National Football League team’s games beginning with the 2025-2026 season.
According to a news release, the broadcast plans include pre- and postgame coverage, as well as the preseason and playoffs. The deal means the Vikings will be heard in Ely through the 2031 season.
Civic Media, purchased WELY earlier this year. The station is undergoing a revival after being off the air for the past three years. The station airs oldies music and has plans for local programming, in addition to Minnesota Twins baseball.
“We’re beyond excited to bring Vikings football back to WELY-AM!” Station Manager Terri Pylka says in the release. “It’s been a few years since fans in our area could hear the games locally, and I know the community will be just as fired up as we are for their return. Fans will be able to tune in from shorelines, garages, to fish houses — wherever Vikings pride runs deep. Locking in the broadcast rights for the next seven years is a total touchdown — it means WELY will be your home for Vikings football for seasons to come. SKOL!”
The first broadcast is slated for Aug. 9, when the Vikings host the Houston Texans. Kickoff is 3pm (CT).
