Cam Akers Reportedly Gets Saints Tryout At Minicamp After Texans, Vikings Stints

Running back Cam Akers is reportedly getting a tryout with the New Orleans Saints at their minicamp, according to NewOrleans.Football  Nick Underhill.

The former second-round pick in 2020 was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams, where he spent his first three seasons, posting a career-high seven touchdowns and 786 yards in 2022.

He split last season between the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings, appearing in 17 games with two starts, totaling 444 yards and two touchdowns.

After signing a one-year, $1.75 million contract with Houston before last season, Akers hit free agency this offseason but has drawn limited interest.

Akers could serve as a reliable backup for the New Orleans Saints behind star running back Alvin Kamara. The Saints also have third-round 2023 pick Kendre Miller and sixth-round 2025 pick Devin Neal competing at the position.
