NDSU Baseball Edges Omaha in Extra Innings, 1-0

OMAHA, Neb. – Sophomore infielder Jake Schaffner scored on a wild pitch in the 10th inning to lift the North Dakota State baseball team past Omaha, 1-0, in the opening round of the Summit League Championship on Wednesday night at Tal Anderson Field.

The game was held scoreless through the first nine innings and both teams combined for 19 total strikeouts. Nolan Johnson worked 7.0 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and three walks, while Danny Lachenmayer (3-2) provided a season-long 3.0 innings of relief with three strikeouts. Ben Weber also posted 10 strikeouts over 9.0 scoreless innings for Omaha (19-29, 12-16 Summit).

Lachenmayer kept the game scoreless in the top half of the 10th inning after he sent the Mavericks down in order with a pair of strikeouts and a fly out. Schaffner then sparked the Bison (18-31, 13-15 Summit) with a leadoff triple into right center before scoring on a walk-off wild pitch to secure the 1-0 win.

As a team, the Bison totaled five hits with Schaffner going 2-of-5 at the plate with one run. Davis Hamilton also posted two doubles on three appearances.

Second-seeded NDSU will advance to face top-seeded Oral Roberts tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m., at Tal Anderson Field.
