VERMILLION, S.D. – Bison senior Grace Emineth claimed the long jump title as the North Dakota State women’s track & field team opened competition at the Summit League Outdoor Championships on Thursday.
Emineth won the long jump in dramatic fashion, leaping 19-06.75 (5.96m) on her final attempt. The Bison women swept the podium in the event, finishing 1-2-3 with Ella Gardner second at 19-03.25 (5.87m) and freshman Nyariek Kur third at 19-00.00 (5.79m).
Grace VanErp contributed a big personal-best of her own in the long jump, going 18-08.50 (5.70m) to take sixth place.
NDSU’s Alex Seagris placed third in the javelin with a throw of 145-7 (44.38m).
Annabel Thorstenson (186-5 / 56.82m), Merrideth Spiers (182-2 / 55.52m) and Adison Kapitzke (181-1 / 55.19m) finished 4-5-6 in the hammer for NDSU.
Senior Jacee Johannsen cleared a personal-best 13-10 (4.22m) in the pole vault to place sixth in the meet and stand at No. 2 on the NDSU all-time list.
Bison freshman Mia Hoffmann (36:28.63) placed fifth in the 10,000m, and freshman Jenna DeBates (36:45.70) was eighth.
After Day 1 of the Summit League heptathlon, freshman Rylee Johnson stands in sixth place with 2,868 points.
Several running events held preliminary rounds on Thursday evening to qualify for Saturday’s finals.
Four Bison women qualified for the Summit League 200m dash final – Anika Larson in 23.75, Elise Wisnewski in 23.83, Paige Renschler in a personal-best 23.85, and Riika Tirkkonen in 24.11.
Kaci Cooper (1:00.06) and Kendal Stingle (PR 1:01.41) both advanced to the 400m hurdles final.
The meet will continue on Friday and Saturday.
