What is the Vikings QB situation heading into 2025?

For the third straight year, the Vikings quarterback situation is looking completely different.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has shown he can be a master roster builder since becoming the Vikings general manager three years ago. Head coach Kevin O’Connell does a great job of maximizing the pieces given to him. It is a great combination of coach and general manager and now the future of this relationship is also the future of their quarterback situation, J.J. McCarthy.

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report talked about each team’s quarterback situation heading into 2025, which obviously included the Vikings.

They explained, “J.J. McCarthy is essentially a rookie after missing all of last season with a torn ACL. When you spend a high first-round pick on a quarterback, he deserves at least two full seasons to make his case.”

Of course, it is worth noting that McCarthy did not tear his ACL but his meniscus. Regardless, it is still essentially a rookie season for him, and it will be interesting to see how things play out.

There is no Sam Darnold backing him up this year either, rather there is Sam Howell who trades places with Darnold coming over from Seattle.

The Vikings will boast their usual roster, loaded with skill players to make plays, and a revamped offensive line. It will have McCarthy ready to hit the ground running.
