FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men’s basketball program added senior transfer Tay Smith of Bowling Green, Ky., to its 2025 recruiting class, head coach David Richman announced Wednesday.
Smith is a 6-foot-3 guard who spent two seasons at NAIA Brescia University in Kentucky, before playing the most recent two seasons at Division II Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina.
“Tay will bring a great work ethic and lead by example,” said Richman. “He’s got a strong track record of success, knows what it takes to win, and plays with good instincts. We’re excited to add him to our Bison Family.”
In two seasons at Brescia University from 2021-23, Smith averaged 16.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals. At Lenoir-Rhyne from 2023-25, he averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. Smith was named to the All-SAC Tournament Team as Lenoir-Rhyne went 29-6 overall and advanced to the Division II Elite Eight in 2025.
Over four collegiate seasons, Smith has totaled 1,572 points (13.9 ppg), 575 rebounds, and 227 three-pointers.
