Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson says it’s ‘crazy’ Shedeur Sanders slipped

You can add Minnesota Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson to the list of people stunned that former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders slipped to the fifth round of this year’s NFL Draft.

Jefferson was asked recently by Bleacher Report about Sanders going from a projected first-round pick to the fifth round.

He called it “crazy” that he did not come off the board until the Browns finally took him with the No. 144 overall pick.

“I think it’s crazy that he dropped that far in the draft,” Justin Jefferson said. “I definitely don’t think he should’ve dropped that far and just watching him the previous seasons and seeing the different things that he did at Colorado, I definitely thought that he should’ve been drafted in that first, second round.”

Jefferson went on to say that Sanders should be able to use the draft slide as motivation moving forward. The Browns do not have a definitive starting quarterback as things stand.

Sanders should be able to compete for that job.

“I guess it’s just more fire for him and more chip on his shoulder that he can use going into the league,” he said.

Jefferson not only shared when Shedeur Sanders should have been drafted, but he also mentioned specific teams that he believes should have taken Sanders.

The good news is that one of the teams he mentioned is the Browns.

“I mean, New York doesn’t really have a quarterback, Steelers. Cleveland definitely does need a quarterback, also,” he said.

Shedeur Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns this past season, while completing 74 percent of his passes. There are certainly some fair criticisms of his game, but there is no doubt that he is talented.

As for Justin Jefferson, he has turned into one of the top receivers in the NFL after starring at LSU during his college career.

Jefferson led the NFL in receptions and receiving yards in 2022, while earning NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors. He was named first-team All-Pro this past season.
