FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team bounced back with an 8-4 win over Oral Roberts in game two of the three-game series on Saturday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
Sam Canton got the Bison (16-27, 12-11 Summit) off to a fast start with a two-run home run in the first inning to make the score 2-0. Colten Becker followed it up with his second home run in the last three games to extend the lead to 3-0 after four complete.
NDSU then cracked the game open plating four runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Alex Urlaub started the frame with RBI sacrifice fly before Aiden Schenk reached on an error to score Noah Gordon. Jake Schaffner then continued the big frame with an RBI single before Luis Garcia capped the inning stealing home to push the lead to 7-0 through six complete.
Oral Roberts (26-18, 13-9 Summit) responded in the seventh pushing across four runs on five hits to cut the edge to 7-4 after a two RBI single off the bat of Will Edmunson. Schaffner added insurance in the eighth with RBI single to help secure the 8-4 win.
As a team, the Bison totaled 10 hits with Schaffner going 4-of-5 at the plate with two RBI. Becker also contributed two hits on three appearances with two runs.
Logan Knight (3-4) earned the win after tying a season-high seven strikeouts over 6.1 innings with one walk. He worked 6.0 scoreless frames before the Golden Eagles scored their first run of the game in the seventh.
NDSU will conclude its series with Oral Roberts tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
