Jim Harbaugh tells Vikings fans exactly what they want to hear about J.J. McCarthy

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh couldn’t resist the recent opportunity he was given to shower Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy with a mountain of praise.

During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” on Friday, the topic of conversation reached a point where Harbaugh was reminded about how the Chargers will be playing McCarthy and the Vikings next season. So, with a smile on his face, the former Michigan head coach didn’t hesitate for a second to praise the former Wolverines quarterback.

“He’s a tremendous competitor.

…Vikings fans are going to be very happy [with] J.J. McCarthy.”

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh knows exactly what the Minnesota Vikings are getting in J.J. McCarthy

While some have spent the 2025 offseason surrounding McCarthy’s future in Minnesota with doubt and skepticism, Harbaugh knows that the former Michigan quarterback has a chance to be great in the NFL.

Last year, Harbaugh certainly surprised a few people when he claimed that McCarthy is “the greatest quarterback in University of Michigan – college football history,” especially since former NFL quarterback Tom Brady is also a former Wolverine. But then Brady also agreed with Harbaugh’s comments, and people essentially lost their minds.

McCarthy and Harbaugh have a lot to be thankful for when it comes to each other. The young quarterback helped Harbaugh lead the Wolverines to a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2024, and the head coach’s guidance ultimately resulted in McCarthy getting selected by the Vikings in the first round of last year’s NFL Draft.

Instead of teaming up like they did at Michigan, McCarthy and Harbaugh will lead their respective teams against one another next season inside Los Angeles’s SoFi Stadium. The official date and time for the matchup hasn’t been released by the NFL yet, but when it is, one can imagine that a lot of Michigan fans will be circling it on their calendars.
