NDSU Men’s Golf Holds Second On Day Two of Summit League Championships

MESA, Ariz. – North Dakota State men’s golf held onto second place on day two of the Summit League Championships, posting a -8 round of 276 at Longbow Golf Course to close the gap heading into the final round on Tuesday.
 
Rylin Petry led the day for the Bison and matched the second-best round for a Bison in Summit League Championship history with a 66, one shot off Nate Deziel’s record 65 in 2022. Petry also matched a Deziel record in the round. After recording 13-striaght pars to begin the day, Petry carded five-straight birdies to end the day, matching Deziel’s record for a Bison at the Summit League Championships.
 
Petry’s 66 set a new career low for the junior and moved him up nine spots on the leaderboard, sitting in third at -4.
 
The Bison (-5) gained two shots on leader South Dakota State (-11) for the overall lead on day two. Oral Roberts (-5) also sits in a tie with the Bison, while South Dakota (+6) and Omaha (+9) round out the top five of the 11-team field. North Dakota State is the only team with all five golfers in the top 15 headed into Tuesday’s final round.
 
Josh Galvin joins Petry within the top 10, after recording a round of 68 on day two. Galvin sank four birdies with three pars on the front nine and continued the momentum with another three birdies and four pars on the back half, to finish at -3 on the day. Galvin’s seven birdies was the most for any of the 55 golfers on the course on Monday and helped him climb eight spots into a tie for eighth at -1.
 
Ian Simonich is just outside the top 10 heading into the final day after carding his second-straight round of an even-par 71. Simonich recorded a pair of birdies on the front nine and made the turn at -1. After a birdie on 13 to go to -2, Simonich carded three-straight bogeys, but the senior recovered with a birdie on the final hole to move back to even and in a tie for 12th headed into the final day.
 
Jake Skarperud wrapped the scoring for the Bison on Monday with an even par round of 71. Skarperud had a triple bogey on the opening hole, but carded four birdies and just one bogey the rest of the way, as he moved into a tie for 15th at +2.
 
Max Wilson joins Skarperud at +2 after 36 holes following a 73 in the second round. Wilson had three birdies on the day, to go along with 10 pars in the round.
 
The Bison are set to begin the final day of the Summit League Championship on Tuesday morning, with NDSU in the final pairings set to tee off between 9:50 a.m. CT and 10:30 a.m. CT on hole one.
