OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – Sophomore infielder Jake Schaffner has been named to the 2025 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award watch list, the College Baseball Foundation announced on Friday afternoon.
The award honors the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Schaffner was one of the top 100 shortstops in the nation to earn a spot on the watch list. The Janesville, Wis., native has started all 33 games at shortstop this season and has registered a .378 batting average with a .474 slugging percentage and .448 on-base percentage. He leads the Summit League with 51 hits, including six doubles, two triples and one home run. Schaffner also paces the Summit League with 13 stolen bases and has notched a .969 fielding percentage.
Schaffner was one of two players in the Summit League named to list, joining Carter Sintek from South Dakota State.
