OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State baseball team fell short at Omaha, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at Tal Anderson Field.
Omaha (10-18, 4-7 Summit) started the scoring in the third inning with an RBI single off the bat of Mason Gaines. The Mavericks then increased their edge in the fifth pushing across three runs on four hits to make the score 4-0 after Tyler Palmer connected on an RBI single into right center. Omaha added insurance in the seventh scoring on a throwing error to stretch its lead to 5-0. The Bison (9-17, 7-3 Summit) attempted to rally in the ninth after Jake Schaffner scored Evan Gustafson with an RBI single, but NDSU went on to drop the contest, 5-1.
The Bison totaled eight hits as a team with Tommy Simon going 2-of-3 at the plate and Dante Smith also posting two hits on five appearances.
Logan Knight (1-4) made the start with six strikeouts and one walk over 6.0 innings. Sam Roberts also appeared for 1.0 innings of relief with two strikeouts, while Hayden Sylte finished the final inning with one strikeout.
NDSU will close out its series at Omaha tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
