SAN DIEGO, Calif. – North Dakota State junior Zach McGlynn leads the Aztec Invitational decathlon through five events, posting a personal-best Day 1 score on Thursday.
McGlynn (Stephen, Minn.) racked up 4,141 points in Thursday’s five events, setting a personal-best pace. He opened with a 10.97 in the 100m dash for the second-fastest time of his career, before recording an outdoor personal-best of 24-00.75 (7.33m) in the long jump.
McGlynn posted a personal-best 43-09.75 (13.35m) in the shot put, cleared an outdoor PR of 6-11.50 (2.12m) in the high jump, and capped the day with another personal-best of 50.82 in the 400m dash.
Bison senior Bryce Enerson stands in second place behind McGlynn with a score of 3,510 through Thursday. Enerson’s performance featured career-bests in the long jump (21-11.75 / 6.70m) and 400m dash (53.68).
Decathlon competition is scheduled to resume at 11 a.m. CT / 9 a.m. PT on Friday.
