NDSU Men’s Golf Sit Mid Pack After Day One of UC San Diego Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The North Dakota State men’s golf team sits in a tie for eighth place after day one of the UC San Diego Invitational hosted at Torrey Pines. The Bison shot +19 on the world-renowned south course and sit six shots off the lead with two rounds to go.
 
Ian Simonich led the way for the Bison on the day, firing a +2 round of 74 to sit in a tie for ninth in the 111-golfer field, three strokes off the lead. Simonich carded four birdies in the round, including three over a five-hole stretch from holes two to six. Simonich also had a birdie on the 18th.
 
Josh Galvin was second for the Bison on the day, recording a +5 round of 77. Galvin had just one birdie on the day, coming on the par-4 second hole, but also eagled the par-5 18th hole. He sits in a tie for 31st entering the second of three rounds.
 
Jake Skarperud and Rylin Petry rounded out the scoring for the Bison in the first round, carding +6 rounds of 78. Skarperud had a birdie on the 18th, along with 10 pars. Petry carded 12 pars in his round. The duo sits in a tie for 42nd.
 
Max Wilson wrapped up the day for NDSU with a +7 round of 79. Wilson carded 10 pars and back-to-back birdies on five and six in his round. He sits in a tie for 58th overall.
 
NDSU will resume action with the second round of the UC San Diego Invitational from Torrey Pines South on Monday, with a shotgun start set for 1 p.m. PT/3 p.m. CT.
