BANDON, Ore. – North Dakota State men’s golf climbed two spots on the final day of the Bandon Dunes Championship to finish fifth overall in the 16-team field. The Bison shot +2 as a team on Tuesday, the third-best round of any team at the Bandon Dunes Golf Club on the Bandon Trails course.
Jake Skarperud led the way for the Bison in the third round, shooting a -2 round of 69 on the 6,801-yard course. Skarperud had three birdies and just one bogey in the round, climbing 28 spots up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 40th overall in the 100-golfer field at +14.
Rylin Petry also shot under par for the Bison on the day, shooting a -1 round of 70. Petry started with two bogeys, but recovered with 13 pars and three birdies the rest of the way to move up the leaderboard 19 spots and finish in a tie for 28th at +11.
Max Wilson recorded the top finish for the Bison in the event, as he held firm in 16th overall on the final day with a +3 round of 74 to finish at +9. Wilson had two birdies and 12 pars in his round, as he recorded his highest ever collegiate finish.
Josh Galvin and Ian Simonich finished the event in a tie for 21st at +10. Galvin rounded out the scoring rounds for the Bison on the final day with a +2 round of 73, as he moved up four spots. Simonich dropped five spots, finishing the day with a +4 round of 75. Both golfers finished with three birdies in their final rounds. Sean Moore, playing as an individual, shot a +7 in the final round to finish at +22 in 71st place.
Following the Bandon Dunes Championship, the Bison will have a week off before heading to the UC San Diego Invitational on March 23-25. The event will be held at world famous Torrey Pines, in La Jolla, California.
