BANDON, Ore. – North Dakota State men’s golf opened up the Bandon Dunes Championship on Sunday and sit in ninth overall after the first of three rounds. The Bison shot +22 as a team to sit mid pack in the 16-team field at Bandon Dunes Golf Club on the Bandon Trails course.
Ian Simonich led the way for the Bison on the opening 18 holes, shooting a +2 round of 73 to sit in eighth place overall. Simonich had one birdie, on the par-5 16th, and finished with 14 pars in the round along.
Max Wilson was one of two Bison to have multiple birdies in the round, with one on the par-4 7th and another on the par-4 11th. Wilson finished the day at +5 with a 76 to sit in a tie for 30th overall in the 100-golfer field.
Josh Galvin also had two birdies in the opening round, recording his first on the par-5 9th before matching Simonich with a birdie on 16. Galvin, along with individual Sean Moore, finished the opening round at +7 with a 78 to sit in a tie for 41st overall.
Rylin Petry rounded out the scoring for the Bison on day one with a +8 round of 79. He finished with one birdie on the par-4 14th and sits in 54th overall. Jake Skarperud shot a +12 on day one and sits in a tie for 80th after an opening round 83.
The Bison will be back in action on Monday with the second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship on the Bandon Trails course. NDSU will tee off at holes 12-14 on Monday at 8:30 a.m. PT/ 10:30 a.m. CT.
