TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The North Dakota State baseball team scored four runs in the ninth inning before falling short at No. 20 Alabama, 9-7, on Saturday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in front of 4,019 fans.
After entering the final inning trailing, 9-3, Dante Smith sparked the Bison (1-8) with an RBI leadoff double to right center to make the score 9-4. The Bison then added another run on an RBI groundout before Davis Hamilton delivered an RBI single to center field to cut the edge to 9-6. Noah Gordon kept the rally going sneaking an RBI single down the left line to pull within two, 9-7. However, the Crimson Tide (11-0) held off the Bison with a strikeout and fly out to secure the 9-7 win.
Jake Schaffner led the way going 3-of-5 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Smith also added two hits with two runs, while Hamilton notched two hits with one run and one RBI.
Logan Knight (0-2) made the start throwing five strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Danny Lachenmayer notched one strikeout over 1.2 frames and Leland Wilson finished the final inning with one strikeout.
NDSU will finish out its three-game series at Alabama tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
