NDSU Softball Drops Two Games at Gopher Indoor Classic

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – North Dakota State softball dropped a pair of games on Friday to open up the Gopher Indoor Classic, falling to Miami (Ohio) and host Minnesota at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Bison fell to Miami, 9-1, and dropped game two against the Gopher, 3-1.
 
The Bison fell behind to Miami in the first inning and were unable to recover. The Redhawks scored one in the second and added a two-run home run in the second. Rylee Henderson would bring in NDSU’s only run in the fourth win an RBI single.
 
However, Miami answered back with back-to-back home runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, as they scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to secure a run-rule victory.
 
Henderson and Taylinn Warren finished with two hits each for the Bison. Lileigh Nieto and Star Cortez had the other Bison hits. Savy Williams picked up the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings. She finished with three strikeouts.
 
In game two, Minnesota took the lead in the bottom of the second with a solo home run. The Bison answered back in the third as Jasmyn Yessian hit an RBI single to right to tie the game.
 
The Gophers would go back in front in the fourth with a pair of runs and the Bison would be unable to answer, being held scoreless the rest of the way.
 
Bella Dean, Savannah Henzler and Chloe Woldruff joined Yessian with hits in the game. Addie Bowers tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts in the loss.
 
NDSU will be back in action on Saturday at the Gopher Indoor Classic with two games against Wagner. The Bison will take on Wagner at 12:30 p.m. for game one from U.S. Bank Stadium. Game two will come later in the afternoon, scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
