Ex-Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was seen walking in Indianapolis, the home of this week’s NFL Scouting Combine, with Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints hats hanging out of his backpack.
Chances are Sanders won’t be going to the Vikings and Saints.
Minnesota has 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy on the roster, and the ex-Michigan star is the team’s future QB1, perhaps as soon as this year.
New Orleans expressed its commitment to veteran Derek Carr as its QB1 to reporters at the combine on Wednesday. Carr only has two years left on his deal, so it’s conceivable the Saints, who pick ninth overall, could look to take Sanders (perhaps via a trade up) as their future quarterback.
However, of those three teams, the Browns would be the most likely to take Sanders, simply because they have no answers at quarterback right now.
Deshaun Watson, who has struggled in Cleveland, is now rehabbing an Achilles injury that will cause him to miss “significant time.” The Browns need to find better answers at QB1 and will be in position to do so with the second overall pick.
Right now, Indianapolis is the hub for NFL action, but attention will turn to Green Bay in two months’ time, when the draft begins on April 25 and Sanders puts on a hat for his new team on stage.
