NDSU Wrestling Hosts South Dakota State in Border Bell Battle

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State wrestling will wrap up the dual schedule for 2024-25 on Sunday, February 23, welcoming in South Dakota State for Senior Day inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex. The Bison and Jackrabbits are set to get underway at 2 p.m., with the dual set to be televised live on WDAY Xtra and broadcast on Bison 1660.

Tickets for Sunday’s dual are just $5 for all ages. Tickets are available online at GoBison.com/tickets or by calling/visiting the Bison Ticket Office, located in the south lobby of the Sanford Health Athletic Complex. Tickets will also be available on Sunday at the door.
 
Senior Day
Sunday’s dual will mark the final home duals for three seniors; Kyle Burwick (133), Clay Radenz (157) and Michael Baker (197).
 
Series History
The Bison and South Dakota State will meet for the 72nd time on Sunday, with North Dakota State holding a 45-25-1 advantage in the series. The Bison are 24-9 against the Jackrabbits in Fargo.
 
The Border Bell
Sunday is the 12th annual Battle for the Border Bell between North Dakota State and South Dakota State. The winner claims the traveling trophy, a 100-pound kettle bell, which was introduced during the 2013-14 season. After NDSU had won for three-straight seasons, SDSU has claimed the bell the last three years. SDSU leads the Border Bell series 6-5.

Brenot, Daugherty and Olson Coming Off Undefeated California Trip
Aidan Brenot (184) led three Bison in undefeated weekends in California, recording a 3-0 week that was highlighted by a pin of #16 Brock DelSignore (Little Rock), along with a major decision in the Big 12 dual vs. Cal Baptist. Tristan Daugherty (125) also went 3-0 with a major decision and Michael Olson (141) was 2-0 with a pair of decisions.
 
Burwick On Dominant Stretch
Kyle Burwick has been on a dominant stretch of late, winning seven-straight Big 12 duals, including six bonus-point decisions. During the winning run in Big 12 competition, the senior won four straight 15-0 shutout tech falls, before a win by fall, decision and major decision in his last three. In his last seven Big 12 duals, Burwick is outscoring the opposition 87-7.
 
Petersen Settling In at 157
After starting the year 5-4 at 149 pounds, Max Petersen made the move up to 157 pounds in December and the sophomore has settled in quickly, recording 14 wins in 18 matches, including a 5-2 mark in Big 12 duals. He has scored major decision in three Big 12 duals and has six bonus-point decisions against D1 opposition since the move up.
 
The Bison at Home
North Dakota State holds a 288-131-8 record at home over the course of the program’s 67-year history.
 
Up Next
With the conclusion of the dual schedule, the Bison will set their sights on the 2025 Big 12 Wrestling Championships. NDSU will make the trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma and the BOK Center for the Big 12 Championships, hosted March 8-9.
