NDSU Baseball Suffers Setback at Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas – The North Dakota State baseball team suffered a 13-2 setback at Lamar on Wednesday afternoon in chilly conditions at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

After Lamar (4-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single, Noah Gordon knotted the game, 1-1, with an RBI ground out to score Davis Hamilton in the second frame. The Cardinals answered in the bottom half pushing across six runs on six hits to make the score 7-1 with a two-run double off the bat of Reese Beheler. Luis Garcia notched another run for NDSU (0-5) on a passed ball in the third inning before the Cardinals scored six unanswered runs over the next four innings to secure the 13-2 win.

Matt Sargeant (0-1) made the start on the mound with one strikeout over 2.0 innings. Landon Koenig also appeared out the bullpen and tossed a team-best two strikeouts over 1.0 innings.

Jake Schaffner went 3-of-4 at the plate, while Hamilton also added one hit and one run.

NDSU will be back in action at UTRGV to open up a three-game series on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
